Proposal for the recovery of Urban Areas
Presently the city of Buenos Aires has numerous areas of abandoned incomplete works, which are in disuse as the result of different political and economic reasons that have led to this ongoing situation. For this main reason we are proposing to rescue them and give them greater value.
In this particular case we seek to intervene in two sections of exits and entrances to the AU1 La Plata- Buenos Aires motorway, which was previously executed but not completed, and today, after 40 years still remains uncertain.
These stretches of highway consist of those located between Av. Ing. Huergo, Av. San Juan, Av. Paseo Colon and Cochabamba Street, near Dique 1 in the neighborhood of Puerto Madero near the center of the city Porteña entering from the South Zone.
These abandoned stretches of highways have a large cargo capacity. Therefore we propose to take advantage of this and hope to develop a new re-use strategy for the new destination.
The existing contextual conditions of this area are suitable for the construction of both commercial and corporate usage. Given the conditions and the proximity to the city center it allows for quick access to traffic entering from the south access.
From these two sections which will be raised to 8m in height one can enjoy long and privileged views of the Puerto Madero neighborhood with its 4 docks and historical Old Dock. From this picturesque background you can see the ecological reserve of the city of Buenos Aires as it shines with the color of León's skin from the waters of the Rio de La Plata.
The highway itself is constructed in reinforced concrete and is presented in optimal condition to act as a support structure for the new use of offices.
Both are projected on two floors, and free of central columns to give total flexibility and encourage future companies to stay.
The construction system will be through a succession of laminated wooden arches resting on the edges of the perimeter of the Highway.
These will be comprised of large lights with a low load transmission. Aluminum carpentry with double safety glass and air chamber will guarantee proper thermal and acoustical insulation. We will use a textile roofing material of ETFE that will satisfactorily meet existing load needs, ingestion, and corrosion and protect against UV rays. In addition the entire set will be in various colors which will dominate with its illuminated presence that serve as both an entrance and exit of the highway.
