Boulevard and Bridge
This proposed Idea aims to respond to the needs raised by the organizers of the Ideas contest for Public Space at Expo 2023.
Constituted by the development of the central boulevard that runs from this to west the property. It starts from the bridge that crosses Avda. General Paz, to the Torre Mirador urban landmark.
The idea of the Public space and Boulevard is developed as a great space for circulation, meeting and entertainment, allowing access to the large centers of the complex and housing both outdoor activities and common equipment for the exhibition. The idea is based on rings, concentric to the two streets and that are developed along the axis of the exhibition site.
These rings will intersect, leaving common and service spaces at their intersections to meet the needs of the visitor. These rings are designed to solve the main challenges that the program presents. Provide the facility to circulate large amounts of public to the different buildings of the Expo. Generate places of rest, meeting and services. The routes will be privileged and related activities will be focused within them, patios for the development of shows, green areas, places for the location of premises and company stands that with their contribution and presence will allow to solve the costs of the Expo
The project's start-up ring is the one that stands out for its symbolic importance and constitutes a mark of the Exhibition for the City, it is the circular bridge crossing Av. General Paz.
The Central ring develops the Patio de Ceremonias space. Next to the entrance from the parking lot. Its banked perimeter favoring the visual and takes advantage of the natural unevenness that the terrain presents.
Tower, forming the Patio for the development of Outdoor Events.
As the end and closing of the axis, the final ring surrounds the patio of the Mirador Tower, forming the Patio for the development of Outdoor Events.
El Puente An Urban Brand of the Project
We consider the Bridge over Av. General Paz as the first great ring and urban mark of the project. This ring constitutes a large circular terrace on the avenue. Its structure is designed to give a great visual impact, its circular plan allows a tour with multiple perspectives both to the Expo complex and to the rest of the city.
The bridge gains height through concentric terraces. These terraces in their sight generate whoever transits the avenue in their collective memory, the image of the pyramids and monuments left by the great American cultures.
In its elevation the bridge transports us to the images of the cultivation terraces. The gaps between them will allow the incorporation of green through the vegetation as well as the passage of natural light, which will illuminate the passage through the Avenue below.
The structure designed for the bridge is made of metal, part of it cable-stayed and part supported on columns. The structure will be entirely prefabricated, welded in the workshop and assembled on site through joints with bolts, which will allow rapid assembly and low impact at the level of Av. Gral. Paz.
In the center of the bridge and coinciding with the central space of the avenue, two metallic structural towers rise. These will allow the bridge structure to be held in a cable-stayed way through steel tensioners.
These two towers create a wide span inside which it is proposed to incorporate wind turbine equipment, to partially meet the electrical needs of the Expo, projecting the idea into the future and incorporating clean and renewable technologies.
Boulevar Public Space
The two parallel streets of the complex will be updated through a change of the flooring material for compressed concrete blocks. Neither the modification of levels is proposed as well as the layout of the current streets.
The entire network of facilities will maintain its characteristics and levels as they exist today.
The two parallel streets will contain the rings that are proposed to shape the project. These rings at their intersections will have the function of locating the support and service structures for the Expo. Such as health groups, cafes and restaurants. These buildings will have similar morphological characteristics and will allow the visitor a quick identification with their functions, as well as allow a meeting point or reference for their location.
The spaces between these service buildings will contain a diagonal pattern, forming lots suitable for the installation of stands for companies or other ephemeral buildings that may be part of the exhibition. They will also lead to green spaces and rest places with equipment. In its legacy, these stands may be removed by incorporating larger green areas for use by the City's neighbor.
Both the boulevard and the streets that form it will be profusely forested with palm trees of the “Pindó” species, a characteristic species of our coastline and also so typical of the boulevards that formed the towns of our country. This species creates a shady roof allowing under it a microclimate suitable for the growth of other plant species and generating a green roof that gives scale to the monumental complex.
The central ring is proposed to develop its use as a Courtyard of Ceremonies, two banked ramps rise from the meeting of the ring with the side streets that give it access. These structures will allow the distributed location of the public, providing an optimal view of the central space thanks to the slope that is generated.
Moving towards Zufriategui street, the next ring is proposed for use as a food court with surrounding terraces for setting up tables or support points. The space will also house support toilets as well as a station suitable for the pre-treatment of waste and its classification and separation. Stations for cleaning staff, important to service the installed cafes and restaurants.
Arriving at the lookout tower, the last ring is inscribed, which with three triangular-shaped banked areas will allow the location of the public and will form the Space for Holding External Events. These Events may also be part of the activities that take place next to the Central Focus Tower of that space.
